Reflections of a Journey Cat 1 - Module 1
“In learning, you will teach, and in teaching, you will learn.” ― Phil Collins- How is my understanding of PYP principles and practices evolving?
- The principles and practices involved in the PYP have enlightened my understanding, even more, of how students are their own learners. As a facilitator, I have to nurture their skills in developing their potential in critical thinking, problem-solving, and a mindset of international mindedness where they can appreciate other cultures.
- How can I apply learning from this workshop in my own learning and teaching?
- Applying my learning from this workshop will be through many channels, one being the use of activities even more as students tend to grasp concepts and ideas when they have a hands-on approach to their learning.
- How is agency supported and nurtured through this workshop?
- This workshop allows us as facilitators to exercise our voice, choice, and ownership of our learning and hence empowers us to do the same for the students in our various institutions.
- How am I developing international-mindedness in my students?
- I will allow my students to explore, even more, cultures that are different from theirs through various disciplines such as language, design, and literature as this would help them to value the intricate details of respecting other people's views, beliefs, and culture.
- how am I embedding the learner profile into learning and teaching?
- Embedding learner profiles into learning and teaching can be done by making students understand the privileges they may be enjoying that others may not have such as those spelled out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of The United Nations.
- How am I encouraging students to engage with local and global issues and challenges?
- This I can do by presenting students with scenarios where they have to think up solutions and then would go on to introduce them to real-life scenarios that are related to the very scenarios they developed solutions for. Also, presenting students with problems that are imminent in other places and asking them to think of solutions can help them to empathize with others. this will also help them build up their IB learner profiles.
